Treating accute lumbago with Winback Tecartherapy

Back pain, a modern day disorder

In terms of statistics, it is safe to say that almost 8 out of 10 people in France suffer from back pain at some time in their lives. Known as the affliction of the century, what the general public offhandedly describes as back pain covers a variety of disorders.

Acute lumbago, which affects the lower back (lumbar region of the spinal column), is the most frequent form of this pathology and concerns nearly 9 patients out of 10. It is also the easiest to deal with. Contrary to popular belief, it is recommended to exercise and remain active in order to preserve one’s muscles. Accute lower back pain is caused by a painful discal blockage originating in the lumbar rachis.

Lumbago is the most common manifestation of the deterioration of the lumbar discs. Clinically speaking, it is typical to observe the patient adopting a posture that best helps him/her ease the pain which usually evolves towards recovery after 5 to 10 days of rest.

When dealing with a pathology which heals by itself after a few days, it is first and foremost the painkilling aspect, easily obtained thanks to the Winback energy, which is particularly interesting. It thus naturally helps to reduce the pain while avoiding taking medication or analgesics. It makes it possible for the practitioner to maintain the patient in a sitting position during treatment. Depending on the patient’s posture on arrival, the adhesive plate is used either between the shoulder blades or level with the abdomen.

To treat lower back pain with the help of Winback energy, several steps are necessary.

During the first session, treatment begins with a muscle massage around the painful area to free up tensions in CET Dynamic mode using the convex accessory. The treatment then goes on with the Winback 1.0 in RET mode. That way, during the inflammatory phase, less heat is used, but it is possible to work closer to the spinal column with deeper effects. Still in RET mode, but this time using the wristbands or in 1.0 mode ((RET lowpulse)), the practitioner then proceeds to mobilize the lumbar region exercising pressure on the sacrum, then, with the patient lying on his/her side, to unlock the lumbar area, enabling the structures to loosen up and stretch and making it possible to undertake some exercises. In 1.0 (RET lowpulse), the practitioner then reverts to the physiological temperature at the beginning of the session, mostly on the inflamed area. It is necessary to take one’s time during this last stage in order to regulate the metabolism during this inflammatory phase.

During the next session, manual therapy plays a more important role. Starting in the same way with a peripheral muscular massage in CET mode with the convex accessory, the bracelet is then used on the psoas and piriform, before checking the mobility of the lumbar region ( RET mode and wristbands). Finally, switching back to 1.0 in RET mode in lowpulse, postural strain is applied on the lordosis (in a sitting position for instance), before returning to the initial temperature as in the first session.
